I would like to know if you met some people who were very dear to me and if they are in good health: Hingsou, Dorkas,... they were all working in the local hospital at that period.
Excuse me for my bad knowledge of English. I made especially a Facebook-account last week, hoping I cuold get in contact with you by that way.
I hope to hear about you soon. If you 'd like I send youour pictures of Gaya in 1991. I'm a Belgian teacher (Latin and Greek), but in 1991 there were no schools in G.G. so I helped my husband with the distribution of medicines.
Yours sincerely,
An (antesseur@hotmail.com)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5703862998680187510.post-15018979073020969182010-08-03T03:18:38.008-07:002010-08-03T03:18:38.008-07:00Hi. I walk past homeless people daily and realize that in another lifetime this would affect me emotionally and make me very sad, but I've lived around this images for such a long time that I'm able to just mutter "no..sorry" and keep walking without the pangs of guilt that I really ~should~ feel.

Just a thought from the other side of the world...Laurenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08800120522052846317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5703862998680187510.post-33950477818944145682010-05-02T19:36:44.226-07:002010-05-02T19:36:44.226-07:00Every once in a while, I read your blog...and then...Every once in a while, I read your blog...and then I remember that you are the man.Alex Tishmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08465834857312386992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5703862998680187510.post-80832014562419444152010-04-08T01:37:44.744-07:002010-04-08T01:37:44.744-07:00In my opinion, humans are creatures of habit that ...In my opinion, humans are creatures of habit that are infanitly able to adapt to any and all situations. Really what ever happens just has to be habitual for it to be ceased to be noticed as strange or bizar. That goes both ways, for good things and bad things. Taking what is wonderful for granted is just as comon as assuming that one's current horrible situaion will never change.
The other day I was teaching my class a very interesting NPR article: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=122322542

In that article, among other things, it is stated that our brain works more when confronted with change, and that this is one of the reasons why it seems like time goes by quicker when we get older; because we are setteled into our habits and little changes, We actually remember less.
I think that is very applicable to what is happening to you. Your brain is used to working at such a speed to try and process everything around you that even the slightest slow down or comfort seems strange; it's almost like you feel guilty. And yet you do notice all of these things, otherwise you couldn't write about them, it's just that they dont shock you.
I think personally that there is nothing more healthy and normal than accepting the situation for what it is, "Normal" for where you are. Some change and testing your brain to push it further is good, I have certainly benifited from my many travels all aroudn the world in just that way. But being able to see that situation as normal seems, to me, in the end a way of accepting the humanity of the people around you. Of getting to know, and getting used to knowing, their human reactions to living in that situation enough to say that if you lived in the same situation, grew up in the same way as them, you would be them. And that in a way is beautiful.Mical Neillhttp://pretendhome.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5703862998680187510.post-52049250970668303152009-11-27T05:46:46.077-08:002009-11-27T05:46:46.077-08:00That was really, really cool!

Honestly, it all sounds pretty exciting, if a bit frightening at the same time. It's amazing to me that you're caught in the wake of an historic ICC indictment. Not too many can say that. You'll be telling these stories forever. Anyway, enjoy the air conditioning and good food while you can! Thanks for the detailed post.
